Our Call for Members

Forward tells the story of new global markets. More deeply, collaboratively, and elegantly. Ready to join us?

Our membership is addressed to a limited collection of outstanding investors, financiers, wealth advisors, professions experts, and innovators around the world.

We've developed Forward as a community where leaders, experts, and pioneers mutually paint a bigger picture – with intent and a spirit of adventure. Through open contributions and convening, this is a platform that unlocks new and often hidden opportunities. To be discovered and to engage with global capital.

A non-exhaustive selection of Forward roles we look for, across our five sections, includes:

♖ Investment

Asset and fund management houses across public and private markets, both traditional and alternative strategies. These may include core or more esoteric flavours, e.g. Emerging Markets, Multi-Asset, Natural Capital, Asset-Based Finance, among others. In fact, we encourage the latter.

Institutional allocators and allocation advisors (e.g. consultants, OCIOs),

Index industry and data providers,

Global buy-side trading and infrastructure providers,

Economists, macro strategists, and risk consultancies.

♖ Markets

Investment banks and capital markets participants,

Market makers and agency execution houses,

Sector dealmaking, financiers and advisors of global relevance in TMT, Healthcare, Industrials, and Power/Energy,

Ratings agencies and sell-side data providers,

Exchanges and sell-side market microstructure.

♖ Wealth

Global and local-specialist wealth managers,

Private banks, family offices, and their advisors (e.g. across legal, estate and offshore requirements),

Real estate development, lending, and brokerage platforms,

Brands and cultural components emerging across global wealth portfolios, e.g. in luxury, sports, real assets, entertainment, etc.

♖ Professional

C-levels plus accounting and management consultancies,

Core and emerging (e.g. hyperscale, web3 and cyber) enterprise technology leaders and partners,

Talent acquisition and knowledge industries (e.g. universities),

Public relations, public affairs, market entry and IR firms supporting or expanding into global markets.

Content Flows

FW publishes a wide range of news, research, and opinion powered by Forward. How does yours fit?

FinancialWeek welcomes contributions from Forward members across three flows: traditional news, quantitative research, and timely opinion. See more details on what we emphasise and look for in each.

♖ Daily Intelligence

Daily news tends to fall into a pair of categories – what we shorthand as 'plays and players'. Plays focus on deals, allocations, and product developments and partnerships. Players include leader and team moves, corporate strategy, and collective industry work.

What we look for in this flow: proper nouns, measurability (often in the form of cheque size), and real impact.

♖ Research

We invite a wide array of quantitative analysis, from simple one-off data bytes or charting relevant to market movements, to traditional macro notes and calls, to tentpole surveys and studies.

We view promoting knowledge and data as particularly important to our mission, and our Stacks option provides further opportunity to showcase your research.

♖ Opinion

Views and thought leadership are likewise quite welcomed when they are timely, relevant to our audiences, and takes a clear, particular view. Human authorship also required.

Your Focus

FW is passionate about our role as a champion for new markets. That spirit shapes our coverage and is our core, really only, requirement for Forward contribution: its either global or emerging asset class relevance.

FinancialWeek welcomes contributions from members across three categories: traditional news, fresh research, and timely opinion. See more details on what we emphasise and look for in each.

♖ Global

By this, we mean demonstrating a direct impact reaching beyond the United States. Its shape can take a variety of forms. The firm or franchise domicile itself, the focus of the strategy or exposure, an allocator or partner, a global target segment, are among the possibilities. It needn't be all or even the focus of your business – we more than welcome American members – but the contribution should have a real, not hypothetical, connection to global markets.

On this question, we take a holistic approach erring on the side of flexibility. But it is a primary consideration for our editors. We advise members take a thoughtful approach.

♖ Novel Asset Classes

The same is true here: we're focused on what's creative, novel or under-explored. That might include innovation in structuring or strategy; it might track to evolving investor demand, generational, practise or macro conditions. Of course, as above, it might mean widening into new geographies. Or it could represent an enthusiastically contrarian view on what's to come.

Our editorial team is always available to help guide you on either of these fronts.

Submission Process

We keep it simple.

Share It.

Share your news by email, making note of your Forward member, if submitted on behalf, and pay the editorial fee if one applies (to news).

Engage with us.

FW editors will review and reach out with any questions – typically to clarify, address any gaps or add colour we believe would enhance the story or narrative.

See it.

Publication and amplification, usually delivered within 24 hours. If the content is a Forward First Exclusive, or embargoed and shared with us on at least 48 hours notice, it will go live far faster or at a specific agreed time.

More FAQs for Bureaux Contributors

Does my firm or practise need to be a certain size or stature to join?

No. Membership is granted on an individual level, and we strive to be home to a diversity of viewpoints; therefore we accept members from across the spectrum: startups, boutiques and middle market up to the world's largest firms and public entities. Our evaluation lies in the two criteria described above: your ability to contribute, and relevance to our mission.

Do you offer any discounts on membership?

Yes, for strictly public institutions and university students, annual membership is USD $249. Evaluation criteria and publishing process are the same.

How much of your focus (global/different) is sufficient?

We make this judgment for every piece of contributed content. At a membership level, we would suggest that one or the other (or both) attributes be a significant if not majority share of members' work -- but it need not be for your entire firm. What we're after is expertise.

Why is news paid? Are there exceptions?

The editorial fee for news supports our newsroom operation, and is also designed for thoughtfulness in contribution volume. We do make one exception, the Forward First Exclusive. Email us for more.

Research and opinion are free to contribute?

Yes, as per the requirements above. Again, we encourage thoughtfulness in volume and reserve the right to regulate contribution.

Is there a contribution limit?

At FW our editorial aim is to paint a collective markets picture, not individual saturation. Our team will approve exceptions when appropriate, but as standard we constrain member contributions to one per week. Beyond this we are happy to build bespoke 1:1 engagements at higher volume through our partnership studio.

Can Bureaux contributions be upgraded?

Absolutely; with sufficient lead time our studio is happy to create additional assets, or arrange an extended channel opportunity, for any Forward contribution. In fact, Forward members receive a discount for those services.

Does Herald publish news beyond Forward?

Our publisher and team make independent decisions on news' relevance for our audience, with or without it being contributed. In the coming months, FW will also begin producing Full Spread, a magazine with long-form, profile and analytic assets in a similar spirit.

We would not describe our posture as investigative, but as a respected financial news outlet, FinancialWeek believes in reporting what's important -- and that may indeed include critique of members' firms. We take a disciplined and balanced approach to our journalism.

Tell us about your editorial process.

In our engagement with Forward contributors we aim to ensure, as necessary, that all claims are accurate, supported and meet traditional journalistic standards. Our goal is to tell the most fulsome story possible, creating value while honouring the truth; therefore we retain the right to challenge or remove information that doesn't meet the above, and in most cases our edit will involve revision for space and house style. In this sense we are true to our name: more newspaper than wire.

What is your take on AI?

Content created by artificial intelligence is easy to identify, often contains inaccuracies. We strongly encourage our members to avoid using it for FW contributions, at bare minimum with close human edit, and restrict its use entirely for views and opinion.

Likewise we view Forward as a constructive relationship, one that involves representing you to the world. Therefore we appreciate that relationship being corresponded by humans, not agents, as well.
